Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

Lauren Bunyan Gould, the varsity cheerleading coach at NRHS and owner of Cheer Mania All Stars, passed away on December 4, 2016 at age 32. Lauren was not only a coach, but to many she was an inspiration. She was diagnosed at age 2 with Cystic Fibrosis. Even though many people doubted her, she never let her disease get in the way of her dreams. As a high school student, she participated in many sports, although cheer became her favorite. She was on varsity cheer throughout her high school years and after she graduated in 2002, she remained in the program as a coach. In September of 2002, she became an assistant to the program, and shortly after was given the JV coaching position, while she also served as assistant varsity coach.  A few years later, she opened Cheer Mania All Stars. By 2009, she was offered the opportunity to coach varsity cheer. Lauren took the opportunity and was an amazing coach to the girls. They won countless first place titles, Westchester County Grand Championships, and Section 1 titles. In January of 2015, Lauren and her girls competed in the NCA National Championships, won first place and became NCA National Champions. Sadly, on December 4, 2016, Lauren passed away, but with her passing she defied all odds: she lived two times longer than doctors predicted and she lived her dreams. The wake, which was on December 7 and 8, and the funeral which was on December 9 was flooded with people. Over 2,000 people attended the wake and over 1,000 people attended the funeral. Coach Lauren’s legacy will always live on at NRHS, and she will remain in the hearts of many forever.

Some of the varsity cheerleaders shared good memories and lessons that Lauren was able to teach them as their coach.

“Lauren built a cheer empire, but she didn’t stop at raising better cheerleaders, she made us better people.” -Megan Rettino

“Lauren always said there should be a tuck after that!” -Jaslyn Laguna

“Lauren used to always say to me ‘Chyna shut up and I’ll never forget it” -Chyna-Lei Brito

Lauren always told her cheerleaders “Don’t wait for someone to give you the green light in life because then you’ll be waiting forever.” -Julianna Krichten

“Lauren led with a quiet strength that few possess. She was humble, determined, always willing to share her knowledge with others, and always pushed us to be our best on and off the mat. Although cheer was her passion, family was her life and that is what she tried to instill in every girl she worked with.” -Tara Cool
