ROTC Cadets win First Place at Sterling Drill Meet

The North Rockland’s NJROTC, academic team entered in a competition on February 11th, 2018. Located in North Fork, Long Island, five cadets took part in the “Brain Brawl”. The competition is a quiz show-like competition testing curriculum knowledge. The academic commander, Miry Salto, was the first to enter in this competition.

The drill team from the NRHS NJROTC unit, attended the Sterling drill meet on February 24th, 2018. Ten units from all branches like army, navy, and air force, all attended as well. Out of all ten teams, North Rockland’s unit came in first place. The Cadets placed first in Varsity Inspection, Unarmed Platoon, Exemplary Conduct, 2nd in Armed Platoon, and third in Varsity Color Guard. In the First Year category, the Cadets were first in Unarmed Platoon and third in Color Guard. Overall, our drill team led by cadet Cody Hamilton, did great out there.

On March 23rd, North Rockland’s NJROTC STEM team built an underwater robot and competed at Central Connecticut State University. Led by cadet Andrew Tesik, the team won a 2nd place trophy in their division. In total fifty six teams attended the competition that day. For the unit it was a huge achievement since our STEM team (“Sea Perch”) has only been up officially for two years.

The North Rockland NJROTC Orienteering Team competed on March 29 in a meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary in Westchester County. Cadets Andrew Tesik and Julian Levy placed third to bring home a trophy for North Rockland. Under cadet Michael Kanarian’s leadership, we are bound to succeed in future orienteering meets.
